The draft minutes from our 2017-18 state body meeting have been posted to our website.  The rules changes approved at the meeting are:

  • The Folkstyle State Championships will be moved to a date two weeks earlier than currently scheduled, effective with the 2018-19 season.
  • The minimum rest period between matches is changed to 15 minutes.
  • First-round pairings at the Folkstyle State Championships, which were previously rotated annually on a fixed schedule, will now be done randomly.
  • The rules modification establishing a maximum weight difference between competitors has been eliminated for the qualifying state series of tournaments.  The NFHS rule shall continue to apply, which limits wrestlers to competing at a weight class no more than one weight class above their actual weight.
  • The High School division will now wrestle 1:30 periods (1:00 for consolation matches).
  • The state qualifying tournaments will charge an entry fee of $25 this season.
  • Kansas wrestlers will be required to follow state procedures to qualify for any event in which USAWKS sponsors or supports teams in that event.  If they follow these procedures and are not selected to be a part of a USAWKS team, they will be allowed to compete for any other team.
  • The rule requiring anyone ejected from a tournament to immediately leave the building is clarified to apply NFHS rules for any minor.  These rules require a supervisor of the minor to accompany the minor when he/she is removed from the building.  If a supervisor is not available, the minor will be confined to the team bench area.
  • The number of possible satellite weigh-in sites for qualifying tournaments is increased from two to four.
